Eligibility and coverage

In order to be eligible for AD&D, you must:

  • Be working part-time (50% appointment percentage) or more, and
  • Be a faculty or staff member in a regular position.

When you enroll, you can elect to cover yourself and/or your family.  Eligible family members are:

  • Your legal spouse.
  • Your domestic partner.
  • All unmarried dependent children under age 25.

A person may not be insured as both an employee and a dependent.

  • An eligible dependent child may not be insured as a dependent child of more than one employee.
  • Your spouse will be covered for 50% of your benefit amount, or 40% if you have eligible children.
  • Each of your eligible children will be insured for 15% of your benefit amount, or 10% if your spouse is eligible for coverage.

Your benefit amount will be a percentage of your selected benefit depending on your age on the date of loss.  For example, if an employee has selected coverage of $40,000, the payable benefit will be $40,000 provided the employee is 69 years of age or younger.  If this same employee is between 70 and 74 years of age, the benefit is 65% of $40,000 or in this case, $26,000.
