Eligibility and coverage
In order to be eligible for AD&D, you must:
- Be working part-time (50% appointment percentage) or more, and
- Be a faculty or staff member in a regular position.
When you enroll, you can elect to cover yourself and/or your family.
Eligible family members are:
- Your legal spouse.
- Your domestic partner.
- All unmarried dependent children under age 25.
A person may not be insured as both an employee and a dependent.
- An eligible dependent child may not be insured as a dependent child
of more than one employee.
- Your spouse will be covered for 50% of your benefit amount, or 40%
if you have eligible children.
- Each of your eligible children will be insured for 15% of your
benefit amount, or 10% if your spouse is eligible for coverage.
Your benefit amount will be a percentage of your selected benefit
depending on your age on the date of loss. For example, if an employee
has selected coverage of $40,000, the payable benefit will be $40,000
provided the employee is 69 years of age or younger. If this same
employee is between 70 and 74 years of age, the benefit is 65% of
$40,000 or in this case, $26,000.

Many specific situations may be covered at various levels. For
example, additional benefits may be available to your beneficiaries to
provide child-care or educational benefits. Additional benefits may
also be available if you were using your seatbelt at the time of an
accident. Please refer to the Certificate of Coverage for detailed
information.
