Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) - Defined Contribution Plan Application

All Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) retirements need to be coordinated through the Human Resources Retirement Services department*. An employee may be eligible for UNM benefits into retirement if they meet the criteria of policy 3600, section 2.3 .

The Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) Retirement Application Process

Notify your department, in writing, of your intentions to retire and your last scheduled day of employment with UNM. . In addition, provide a copy of this written notice to the Faculty Contracts office so that they can process your separation.

Contact your ARP provider and apply for your annuity distribution. Your distribution date must be in the month following your last scheduled day of employment with UNM.

Complete Paperwork. Once you have received a copy of your distribution paperwork from your ARP provider, complete it, sign it, and make a copy of the distribution paperwork to provide to Retirement Services. If you are eligible for UNM benefits as a retiree and plan to keep UNM benefits into retirement, complete the following forms and paperwork:

  1. UNM Benefit Election Form:
    1. Retiree Benefit Election Form (Over 65)
    2. Retiree Benefit Election Form (Under 65)
  2. Your ARP distribution paperwork

Schedule an Appointment. with the Retirement Services division to submit a copy of your ARP provider distribution paperwork, the Benefit Election form, and any other required documents to the Retirement Services Division. You should schedule your appointment no later than 90 days prior to your intended retirement date. Contact the Human Resources Retirement Services at 277-6947 to set up an appointment.
