For employees hired on or before June 30, 2015, and who are actively participating in VEBA, the University of New Mexico offers eligible 65+ retirees medical benefits, in addition to retirement benefits available under the ERA Defined Benefit plan, or the Alternative Retirement Plan. To access these benefits, a potential retiree must meet the criteria of University Administrative Policy 3600, Section 3.1, and meet VEBA participation and eligibility requirements.
Employees hired on or after July 1, 2015 are not eligible for UNM post-retirement medical and dental benefits.
The University of New Mexico is offering the following medical and dental plans to eligible retirees for 2018:

- AARP Medicare Supplement Plan “F”, "G" and "N" with “Walgreens”, “Preferred” and “Saver Plus” MedicareRx Prescription Drug Plans (PDP)*
- Delta Dental Premier or PPO Plan

*AARP Medicare Supplement Plans F, G and N are available in all US states with the exception of MA, MN, and WI. In those three states, alternate UNM-approved Medicare supplement plans are available as a substitute for Plan F, G and N. UNM’s AARP Medicare “Walgreens”. ”Preferred” and “Saver Plus” PDPs are available in all US states. Participants must enroll in BOTH a UNM Medicare Supplement Plan (or the approved alternate plan for MA, MN, and WI) AND a PDP plan, through the UNM HR Benefits office, and remain enrolled in both plans to be eligible for the UNM 30% premium contribution, if applicable.
Please Note: Retirees and dependents who are enrolled in AARP Medicare Supplement Plans F, G or N and Medicare Walgreens, Preferred or Saver Plus PDP and who change their primary state of residence MUST contact United Health Care directly to re-enroll in the Medicare Walgreens, Preferred or Saver Plus PDP in their new state of residence. UNM Benefits is not able to re-enroll the retiree or dependents(s) in the Medicare PDP plan for their new state. Retirees can remain enrolled in the UNM AARP Medicare Supplement Plan F, G or N (or alternate plan for MA, MN, and WI) if moving from the state of enrollment to other states nationwide.
