Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
FLSA was:
- Established in 1938 to protect hourly employees
- Provided basic requirements regarding pay and work
- Established Overtime (OT) pay for time worked over 40 hours in a work week for hourly employees
Specifically it:
- Established overtime payment = 1.5 times “regular rate”
- Defined regular rates as normal wages, shift differentials, bonuses, and other compensation
- Restricted the employment of children
- Outlined record keeping requirements
