unmpresMessage from President Schmidly

The University of New Mexico is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment that is free of all forms of discrimination, including sexual harassment. Unlawful discrimination and harassment undermine the integrity of our academic community and violate University policy, as well as federal and state law. In keeping with that commitment, we have arranged for every employee to participate in an interactive training program called Preventing Sexual Harassment.

This on-line course is designed to help all of us recognize and avoid problems associated with discrimination and harassment. Through a series of scenario presentations and activities, you will learn important principles that you apply to your everyday work and learning activities. One advantage to this on-line training is that faculty and other exempt employees, who because of work demands, have not been able to attend our scheduled on-campus training courses on sexual harassment, will now be able to remain up to date on sexual harassment issues, policies, and law from the convenience of their office, home, or other location that has web access. I strongly support this program and reaffirm the University’s commitment to foster an environment that recognizes the worth and potential of every individual and promote the highest degree of respect among all members of our University community. The University of New Mexico will absolutely not tolerate sexual harassment of any student, faculty, staff, or visitor. Everyone is responsible for elimination of sexual harassment from the University community.

Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely,

David J. Schmidly
President
