National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is held each October to recognize the many and varied contributions of people with disabilities to our workforce.
UNM, an employer committed to the hiring and promoting of people with disabilities, is taking the lead by championing our support for people with disabilities, inclusive talent commitment and disability awareness by systematically implemented changes in our employment practices. This starts with attracting an inclusive and diverse pool of applicants along with our commitment to reasonable accommodation.
Now that we are able to do more in-person activities, resuming our outreach events will enhance our efforts to recruit and retain individuals with disabilities. We are continuing to offer virtual trainings and education specifically to our HR Agents and HR staff to assist our hiring officials with hiring practices, accommodating and working with employees with disabilities. It is our goal to consistently demonstrate our commitment to applicants and our employees with disabilities.
NDEAM presents an opportunity to do this through ADA trainings. Therefore, in collaboration with the Southwest ADA Center we are hosting “Employee Qualification, Performance & Conduct Standards, How Does the ADA Come into Play?”, a virtual ADA training session via Zoom on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2 to 4 p.m. Interested in attending? Contact Shirley Alexander at shalex@unm.edu to register.
