Step 5- Complete Section 1 (Overall Rating)
Develop Overall Rating
Assign an overall rating summarizing how well the employee performed based on the results of Sections 2, 3 and 4. You must also write a narrative summary that supports the overall rating.
No Surprises - Ratings of “I” should be addressed before the formal performance review. There should be an action plan to bring the employee’s performance up to standards. If there are performance concerns ensure there is sufficient documentation, coaching memo, record of conversation, clear expectations, training rationale for improvement.
Note: Weights - When assigning an overall rating, note if the sections are weighted differently. If including weights, they should have been decided at the beginning of the review period rather than added at this time.
