Tech Days will be held on April 17 and 18 at the Student Union Building on UNM’s main campus (please register for this no-cost event by April 4). This popular event offers the University’s students, faculty, and staff an exclusive opportunity to learn about technologies on campus. Attendees can participate in sessions, discussions, and hands-on demos of current and future technological innovations at the University.
Important and timely themes offer something for everyone this year! AI is an important theme in many topics, as it continues to expand into a multitude of areas, influencing and revolutionizing different sectors. The keynote address given by UNM Dean Leo Lo will introduce the concept of AI literacy—what it means, why it matters, and how it applies to the challenges and opportunities faced by colleges and universities. There’s always something new to learn about AI and higher education!
Embedded within the Tech Days program is a track dedicated to the grant-funded New Mexico Open Educational Resources (OER) program. Since the OER Track is hybrid, you can tune in from anywhere! Hear from faculty who developed OER through the grant and how they curated, selected, and incorporated new pedagogical strategies. OER allows faculty to tailor their curriculum to meet the needs of New Mexico’s students using more local and culturally relevant examples along with cutting edge technology. Learn how OER is making college more affordable while reducing withdrawal and failure rates.
Many sessions are geared toward non-technical as well as technical staff on topics such as Smartsheet, Excel, tools for data analysis, and many technological enhancements to campus that are important to understand.
With over 45 hands-on and classroom presentations, you will learn about the latest technologies and productivity tools. There’s truly something for everyone.
As in past years, there will be a sponsor showcase in the SUB Ballroom with representatives from most of the major technology vendors currently working with UNM. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about their products and services that UNM uses on campus. They often have treats and prizes at their booths and presentations! Meals and coffee breaks are provided throughout both days.
For the complete program and schedule, see TechDays.unm.edu! Registration opens March 7 and closes April 4. Admission is FREE, but capacity is limited for all events, so register early!
