Medicare and Social Security Workshops Now on Learning Central

Do you want or need to know more about how Social Security and Medicare will impact you and your loved ones now or in the future? These topics, hosted by UNM’s Financial Wellness Program, will be offered this year in Learning Central.

“Social Security: With You Through Life’s Journey” will be offered virtually in February, June, October, and on-demand. Presenter Rhonda Romero, New Mexico’s Public Affairs Specialist with Social Security Administration, will help you answer important questions like:

  • When can I file for Social Security benefits?
  • What benefits are available, and can I work while receiving them?
  • What do I need to know about Medicare enrollment?
  • How well-funded is the Social Security Trust Fund?
  • And more!

“Getting Started with Medicare” will be presented by representatives of UNM’s Retiree Medicare insurance plan providers. Virtual classes in February, May, August, and December will also be offered on-demand. Sessions will help you to:

  • Compare the parts of Medicare and coverage options
  • Explain the benefits and costs of Parts A, B, C, and D
  • Compare Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage
  • Discuss how Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policies and Medicare Advantage Plans differ
  • Describe the Health Insurance Marketplace and what people nearing Medicare-eligibility need to know
  • Recognize Medicare programs for people with limited income and resources
