Unlocking Employee Potential: Small Steps for Change
According to Gallup, engagement is about understanding your team's needs and making small, meaningful changes to address them. By reviewing engagement survey results and discussing them with your team, managers and supervisors can identify specific actions to enhance team engagement.
This month, managers and supervisors should share the Employee Engagement Survey results with their direct reports and conduct "State of the Team" meetings to discuss these results collectively. In October, teams should create a simple action plan addressing one area of opportunity from these discussions. We are excited to see action plans from last year already being implemented across campus. Your team may also choose to continue work on last year’s action plan.
For departments and units yet to begin their action plans, remember they should be simple, achievable, and focused on a single topic. The key is to create these plans together as a team. The goal isn't perfection but fostering conversation between staff and supervisors to improve engagement.
HR will be hosting several brown bag lunches with Staff Council for all staff and managers to discuss survey results and action planning. We are also available to meet with teams to walk through the data and help with action planning.
The Employee Engagement Survey website offers resources for staff to learn more about the survey, understand engagement, and delve into the Gallup Q12 questions, including next steps.
