Human Resources (HR) has designed an Abbreviated Review Process tailored for submitting requests to evaluate grade changes for positions affected by the new FLSA rule, specifically for grades 11 and 12.
Under limited circumstances, HR will consider requests which may warrant a Job Classification Review or Reclassification Review of an Individual.
The abbreviated Job Classification Review process is tailored for submitting requests to evaluate position classifications (job titles) in grades 11 and 12, where a grade increase to 13 might be justified for the specific position classification.
Approved requests under this review category will apply to all incumbents in the job classification, across all departments where the position is used.
Request under this review category MUST be submitted by your College/School/Division (Level 3) HR Agent.
Information will be provided via Smart Sheet and no additional forms are required.
The abbreviated Reclassification of an Individual Review process is tailored for submitting requests to evaluate if an incumbent in grades 11 or 12 is performing duties outside of the scope of their current position, and where their duties might be better aligned with an existing grade 13 job classification.
There are two categories under this process:
Request under Reclassification Review of an Individual require a SPET, current and proposed Org. Chart, and if applicable (Reclassification outside of a Job Family), an Abbreviated PRQ Form upon submission of your request.
Please work with your College/School/Division (Level 3) HR Agent to discuss division expectations related to submitting a request under the Reclassification Review of an Individual category.
As part of Abbreviated Review Process, specific criteria have been established to determine when requests are eligible for the abbreviated process. Consideration may be given under the following circumstances, if responding “yes” to one or more of the following:

If approved by HR Compensation, the changes will take effect on the approved effective date. Please note that these approved changes will remain in place in the event that the January 1, 2025 FLSA changes are delayed or enjoined. Departments must have funding identified to support any salary increases resulting from these personnel actions.
Please email FLSA@unm.edu for questions regarding this process.
