The Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association, or VEBA, is a trust available to active benefits eligible employees already employed as of June 30, 2013 or hired between June 30, 2013 and June 30, 2015. Participating employees contribute a small percentage of their gross income per paycheck to prefund a portion of the medical and dental insurance benefits that they will have access to if they make VEBA contributions for a minimum of five consecutive 12-month periods immediately leading up to retirement from UNM.
The VEBA trust is managed by the VEBA Committee who is responsible for the oversight of the investments of the VEBA Trust Fund and the administration of the benefits pursuant to the VEBA Plan.
Active employees contribute ¾ percent of their gross income per paycheck while UNM matches it with the same contribution of ¾ percent.
Retiree contributions are determined by service credits paid into VEBA; rates are available on the Pre-65 and 65 Plus Retiree Benefits webpages.
