Coaching is a year round process. Goals, duties, and values should be discussed throughout the year during regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings. This provides a framework to ensure employees achieve results through coaching/support and mutual feedback.
How to be "Coachable"
Coaching is an opportunity to receive feedback on regular basis and is crucial to your success. Employees cannot expect to learn or improve unless they are willing to be coached. Some tips which will aid you in being "coachable" are as follows:
- Listen openly to feedback, both positive and constructive
- Ask for specifics so that you know exactly what you need to do or change
- Openly discuss strengths and areas of improvement
- Note:Initiate this conversation with your manager. This is your career. Where it goes is up to you.
