UNM IT is excited to announce new AI tools that are now available to UNM students, faculty, and staff. Zoom AI Companion, Microsoft Copilot, and Apple Intelligence are now available as outlined below.
When using AI tools, it is important to avoid sharing sensitive or confidential data. UNM strongly advises following the guidance provided at UNM AI Resources and using the tools responsibly to ensure the protection of sensitive information. The unauthorized sharing of data protected under FERPA, HIPAA, or other confidentiality regulations is prohibited. For more information, see the AI Data Use Notice on the AI Resources site.
Here is a high-level overview of each of the AI tools that are now available:
Zoom AI Companion
Zoom AI Companion is a generative AI tool that helps users be more productive and collaborate more effectively. It's a built-in assistant that can help with meetings, writing, machine captioning, meeting summaries, and more.
Zoom AI Companion is now available to all UNM users with a Pro-License. Pro licenses are available at no cost to UNM students, faculty, and staff.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat - no-cost version included with your university-provided account
This web-based version provides secure AI chat prompts. This tool offers a range of powerful AI capabilities designed to enhance productivity, collaboration, and learning experiences.
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is available to all UNM faculty, staff, and students. Links to this tool are available at UNM AI Resources.
Microsoft 365 Copilot - AI enhanced version available for departmental purchase
This version provides enhanced functionalities, such as advanced AI-driven insights, automation, and dedicated support to cater to the needs of more demanding workflows. UNM's licensed versions of these AI tools store data in UNM's managed environment, versus commercially available versions of the AI tools which are likely to store data in a public environment.
Due to licensing limitations, UNM is only able to sell faculty, staff, and student employee licenses to departmental purchasers through the UNM software store. At this time, UNM is unable to sell licenses to individuals without the support of a departmental purchaser.
Apple Intelligence (for compatible Apple devices) - no-cost version
Apple Intelligence is Apple’s AI system that provides a seamless integration for optimized performance. It is designed to help users communicate, work, and express themselves with enhanced intelligence and privacy protections.
Apple Intelligence is available to faculty, staff, and students using UNM-owned, compatible Apple devices running iOS 18.1 or later, iPadOS 18.1 or later, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later. More information on this tool is available at UNM AI Resources.

To help users make the most of these AI tools, comprehensive guidelines, training materials, and additional resources are available at UNM AI Resources. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to explore these resources to better understand how to integrate AI into their daily tasks and responsibilities.
