UNM Retirement Plans

ARP

Alternative Retirement Plan

The Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) is a defined contribution plan. The benefit received upon retirement is based on the amount you have contributed during your career, subject to any investment gains or losses.

ERB

Educational Retirement Board
Defined Benefit Plan

The Educational Retirement Board (ERB) is a defined benefit plan. The benefit received upon retirement is defined by a prescribed formula based on years of service and an employee's age that may only be altered by the New Mexico State Legislature.

Voluntary

Voluntary Retirement Plans

As a UNM employee*, you can contribute to tax-deferred voluntary retirement plans. These plans help you build extra retirement savings by reducing current income taxes and increasing investment earnings potential.

* Students and certain employees are not eligible to participate.

Disability

Disability Retirement Application

If an employee becomes disabled and can no longer work, he/she may be eligible to apply for disability retirement under the ERB, which oversees the defined-benefit and defined-contribution retirement plans.
