Service Award Recognition Program

The University of New Mexico honors staff and faculty for their years of dedication based upon two criteria – the employee’s Eligibility status and their Adjusted Service Date. Employees receive a service award for every five (5) years of employment. The employment milestones recognized are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40(+) years.

Learn about other Staff and Campus Award Programs at UNM.

Eligibility

Per University Administrative Policy 3745, Service Awards, regular full-time and regular part-time employees are eligible to receive a service award. The award shall be claimed within the ceremony year in which it was earned (see Example Schedule below). Length of service consists of actual employment in a regular status, and authorized leave with pay or paid sabbaticals.

Pin Awards for Year 5 & 10

On a quarterly basis, the Division of Human Resources recognizes employees celebrating 5 and 10 year anniversaries by presenting them with a University monogram lapel pin. The pins are distributed to the recipient's Dean, Director, or Department Head to facilitate any additional recognition planned by his/her department. The quarterly disbursement schedule is as follows:

Anniversary DateService Award Delivery

April - JuneJuly

October - DecemberJanuary

Award Ceremony for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40(+) Years

The Division of Human Resources hosts an annual Service Award Ceremony to recognize those employees who have reached 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40(+) years of service within the current fiscal year. This event, usually held in April, provides the University with an opportunity to personally congratulate those dedicated employees for their years of service. The award ceremony consists of a formal luncheon and honorees are allowed to invite one guest. Personalized invitations to the ceremony are typically sent to the recipients in January. Confirmation of attendance to the ceremony via RSVP is required.

Example Schedule:
If you meet your 15(+) year Adjusted Service Date between July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024 you will receive an invitation in January 2024 for the ceremony scheduled April 2024 as long as you are still in an active regular position.
