The UNM Gives campaign has wrapped up, and we would like to thank each and every one of you who has donated so far! Together, we have raised more than $150,000 of our $300,000 goal as of early Nov. We love to see Lobos come together to make a lasting impact on our community, and we want to encourage you to keep donating through Dec. 15.
Last month we held Change for Change Drive. This drive brought together departments from across UNM for a little friendly competition to see who could raise the most money. We raised nearly $3,500 total with Facilities Services taking the win by raising $1,876.35. This department will receive a pizza party with Saggio’s pizza delivered by President Stokes.
We also hosted the Salsa Showdown Festival, which included the salsa competition and interactive carnival games. Students, staff, and faculty members raised more than $500 by selling $1 tickets to carnival games. Proceeds from this event went to Animal Humane Society, Roadrunner Food Bank, and other non-profits in our community. We would like to extend our gratitude to every department and organization that made this event a success. By donating to UNM Gives, you are supporting United Way’s mission to help our neighbors.
One example: A 37-year-old female veteran serving in the National Guard is a single parent of three school-age children. Her family was evicted and needed support quickly. The Veterans Integration Center, through funding from United Way, provided wrap-around services such as rental assistance, case management and health care navigation. They also provided food/hygiene/household furnishings and cleaning supplies. Through her case manager, this mother was referred to HUD and received a housing voucher. She established a stable home and continues receiving support through the case manager who is currently working with her on building skills to manage life outside the military.
This is just one of the hundreds of people who have been positively impacted. Information about how to donate can be found on UNM Gives | The University of New Mexico.
Thank you and Go Lobos!
