In the face of growing uncertainty surrounding federal research funding, we know that many of our valued staff are experiencing understandable concern about the future of their roles. This kind of uncertainty brings with it stress and disruption—not just for individuals, but for the teams and communities we serve together.
In response, and in alignment with UNM2040’s Sustainability Goal, Human Resources is launching the Term Retention Initiative (TRI) – a new program designed to support term appointment staff whose positions are ending due to reductions in external funding.
The new TRI offers a single application process for impacted employees to join one or more targeted talent pools based on their experience and interests. Hiring departments are encouraged to review and connect with these applicants prior to publicly posting open positions. This provides for faster hiring for departments and less uncertainty for staff navigating role transitions, and positions UNM to retain staff who are already trained, experienced, and aligned with our mission.
The TRI is available to current term appointment staff in good standing who have received notice that their position will not be extended due to a grant or contract cancellation or a reduction in federal funding. Staff will remain eligible for the program for up to six months following their term end date.
We encourage all departments and employees to visit hr.unm.edu/tri to learn more. For questions or assistance, please contact us at clientsv@unm.edu.
