Most staff positions at the University are classified within the UNM Staff Salary Structure based on their market going rate. However, some positions vary so significantly in the market that a broadband salary range is used to ensure the University can respond quickly and effectively to market fluctuations and pressures.
Given the diverse range of Physician specialty areas, all Physicians will be placed in a broadband grade of 93. To assist departments in identifying an appropriate salary level within this very broad range, the following targets have been provided.
Note: The following does not pertain to Physicians hired into Locum Tenens assignments.

In unique cases where highly specialized Physicians with unique skills are being considered, departments may request to hire the Physician at a rate outside of the identified Target Group in efforts to attract and retain top talent. Salary requests outside of the Target Group will be reviewed/approved by Human Resources.
Per the US Department of Labor, physicians are exempted from overtime and are not required to meet the salary threshold provisions of the FLSA exemption rule.
