HR Compensation conducts periodic reviews of UNM’s staff salary range structure to address observed market changes and best practices, as stipulated in the UNM Vision Statement for Compensating Staff Employees.
When the staff salary structure is adjusted, there is no impact on individual salaries for employees whose current pay rates are within the revised ranges. However, in the cases where staff employee salaries fall below the minimum of the adjusted range, salaries are adjusted up to the new minimum of the respective grades, in accordance with UAP 3500: Wage and Salary Administration.
Effective July 1, 2024, the Staff Salary Structure has been updated. Please visit the link below to view the final structure.
Pending the new FLSA regulations being upheld, below is the anticipated salary structure expected to take effect on January 1, 2025.
Most staff positions at the University are classified within the UNM Staff Salary Structure based on their market going rate. However, some positions vary so significantly in the market that a broadband salary range is used to ensure the University can respond quickly and effectively to market fluctuations and pressures. Broadband grades include extremely broad salary ranges to allow for greater flexibility in assigning competitive salaries.
Positions in broadband grades typically include executive-level roles, athletic coaches, and physicians (e.g. Grades 93, 95, 99). Given the number of physicians employed at the University and the various specialties among physicians, target salary groups are used to help guide effective salary levels. Refer to the Physician Target Groups for more information.
