The University of New Mexico has a service recognition program in place which honors staff and faculty for their years of service. Employees receive a service award for every five (5) years of employment. The employment milestones recognized are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40(+) years.
Per University Administrative Policies and Procedures # (Service Awards), regular full-time and regular part-time employees are eligible to receive a service award. The award shall be claimed within the ceremony year in which it was earned. Length of service consists of actual employment on permanent status, and authorized leave with pay or paid sabbaticals.
On a quarterly basis, the Division of Human Resources recognizes employees celebrating 5 and 10 year anniversaries by presenting them with a lapel pin, which features a beautiful Southwestern design in a two-dimensional casting. The pins are distributed to the recipient's Dean, Director, or Department Head to facilitate any additional recognition planned by his/her department. The quarterly disbursement schedule is as follows:
|Anniversary Date||Service Award Delivery|
|January - March||April|
|April - June||July|
|July - September||October|
|October - December||January|
The Division of Human Resources hosts an annual Service Award Ceremony to recognize those employees who have reached 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40(+) years of service during the previous calendar year. This event, usually held in April, provides the University with an opportunity to personally congratulate those dedicated employees for their years of service. The awards ceremony consists of a formal luncheon and honorees are allowed to invite one guest. Personalized invitations to the ceremony are typically sent to the recipients in January. Confirmation of attendance to the ceremony via RSVP is required.
The Division of Human Resources maintains a separate policy which outlines staff recognition and awards practices, outside of the Service Award arena. The University recognizes the value of rewarding staff members who demonstrate creativity and provide exceptional contributions to the University's teaching, research, and service mission. For specific information regarding University practices and procedures, please refer to University Administrative Policies and Procedures #3235 (Staff Recognition and Awards).
